Got a single bleep on one of my long range rods in the middle of the night. Looked out of my bivy to see my rod caterpult into the air and disapear into the lake. I ran and dived at the rod and knocked the pod and other rods over in the process and came up empty handed. Went out looking in the boat but had no luck so came back to shore to ponder my next move as the rod and reel i had lost was over 500 quids worth. rolled a smoke and come up with the idea of trying to hook my line so went out in the boat again with another rod.after 3 casts i amazingly hooked the line and followed it to where i thought my rod was. after a good hundred yards i came to a massive snag and pulled with my hands at the line up came a massive log and then my lead core. i grabed the lead core so i could get my rig back then the watrer erupted. The fish was still on after 2 hours! Having no rod i played all 33lb of it with my bare hands for 5 mins holding on to the lead core so i did not cut my self on the line. I fully expected to pull out ogf the fish but after a while she went in to the net first time. I also found my rod at the other end of the line on the way back in.
